The latest edition of the alumnae magazine Resplendens is out and features a family who have been educated at South Hampstead for over a century. We are delighted that Ruth Levy (1957) and Joan Arnold (1966) have not just been part of this great South Hampstead legacy but have also chosen to support the Waterlow Hall Campaign in memory of their mother Betty Arnold (nee Hailey) who attended the school from 1915 - 1920). Thank you.
More than 100 people took a journey inside the Waterlow Hall plans yesterday as we revealed the Virtual Reality model of the proposed transformation.
Huge thanks must go to Matt Lade who designed and set up the model and to Jessica Learmond-Criqui who made it all possible.
We hope to have another viewing for girls in the senior school in the autumn so look out for details.
We are completely reliant on the support of our whole community to realise our vision for Waterlow Hall. People have been incredibly generous already with their time, energy and money. This week's #WaterlowHero is Miss Wrigglesworth (Design and Technology) who has put together some fabulous artwork for our display banners in double quick time.
Don't forget to take a look at the Waterlow Hall model which is on display in the Senior School Atrium. It really shows what the hall could be like if we are able to complete the transformation. To see more pictures, visit the Website Gallery
First view of our Virtual Reality model last night. We can't wait to show the junior school girls on Monday at the Open Day. Come and find us in the Marquee and 'step into' the transformed Waterlow Hall with us. Amazing!
Thank you so much to Matt (the designer) Jessica Learmond-Criqui and Ariel who tried it out for us.
We are delighted that our alumnae are getting behind the Waterlow Hall project. This week Lilah Fear (YO 2017) who is an Ice Dancer has joined our Campaign Ambassadors. Lilah was a music scholar and learnt a huge amount about performance and presentation whilst at South Hampstead. To find out more visit our Ambassadors section.
Do you love to get involved and have ideas for fundraising? We are seeking volunteers with creative talent and great fundraising ideas.
Our campaign committee will be involved with helping us to organise events and promote the fundraising campaign. We already have people helping us to create a Virtual Reality model and a film about the project. If you would like to get involved please conact email@example.com.
We are delighted that a number of people have agreed to join a campaign board to help us engage others with this project. We will be holding a series of reception events at the start of next term hosted by board members. These will be specifically for people who have expressed interest in supporting the fundraising. If you would like to know anything more about these events, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Mr Clulow has worked in the Estates department here at South Hampstead for the past 3 years.
‘The Waterlow Hall is used for so many different things that we are in and out setting it up and moving the furniture numerous times every day. The new seating will make such a huge difference to the versatility of the Hall and the time it takes to get it ready for assemblies, talks, productions, concerts, functions and all the other uses the hall has. Roll on retractable seating – we can’t wait!’
Mrs Bernstein and Mrs Kamps see the possiblities for physics with the new Waterlow Hall
‘The redeveloped hall presents all sorts of opportunities for teaching and learning. The new lighting rigs and technology will help us to explain about colour mixing, LEDS, semi-conductors and much more and the whole building will enable us to show how physics can be used in all sorts of creative industries and the wide variety of STEM careers that are available to our pupils.’
Ms Etheridge has recently been appointed our new Director of Debating and Public Speaking.
'I am hugely excited about the re-development plans for the Waterlow Hall. Our girls will benefit from a wide range of public speaking opportunities in this state-of-the-art facility, from small-scale talks and presentations to competitions and debates in collaboration with other schools. The flexible seating, fantastic acoustics and impressive appearance of the new hall will make it the ideal venue to host South Hampstead’s exciting programme of events. At SHHS, we aim to cultivate confidence, eloquence and intellectual dexterity in our students; the Waterlow Hall project is going to give us the platform to take this to the next level. The new space will open up exciting possibilities for the future of public speaking at South Hampstead – I can’t wait to make the most of it!'
Back in 2014, we announced our ambition to transform the Waterlow Hall. At that time, a number of people made significant pledges to help support this project. Four years on and we are now in a position to realise this ambition. We need to raise £3 million and we are delighted to have already secured £900,000 towards this target thanks to the huge generosity of parents, alumnae and friends of South Hampstead. If you would like to get involved and be part of the Waterlow transformation then please do contact us.
This week we revealed the exciting new plans for the Junior School. The junior school development will be funded by the GDST which is why we need your support for the Waterlow Hall. We need to raise £3 million to achieve success so if you would like to get involved just visit the Support Us page on the website.
Last week we shared the plans for the Waterlow Hall with pupils. The model and design boards are now on display in the senior school atrium and we will be adding a display to the junior school in the next few weeks.
